Sleepless Field - ongoing project
Sleepless Field is an art installation that consists of plaster flower sculptures which have been coated in photoluminescent powder so that they glow at night, making them "sleepless". Created through collaborations with various grieving communities, Sleepless Field, draws attention to the way grief can simultaneously isolate and unite individuals.
It has been exhibited in Philadelphia, PA and Richmond, VA thanks to the generosity of the Leeway Foundation and the participation of the Center for Grieving Children, LifeNet Health, Full Circle Grief Center, the MISS Foundation and Bon Secours Richmond Bereavement Center
Elizabeth was able to host a workshop with families at the Center for Grieving Children (Phila) where participants made plaster flowers in memory of someone they've lost. They were able to create one to keep and one to contribute to the larger art project.
Unable to travel to Richmond to host workshops, Elizabeth took flower design requests from people participating in bereavement counseling in the Richmond area. Some participants designed flowers completely from their imagination, some drew their favorite flower and others submitted photos. Generously, some also shared photos and stories of their lost loved ones.
Over one hundred flower designs were submitted from the Richmond area primarily through the following organizations:
LifeNet Health
MISS Foundation
Bon Secours Richmond Bereavement Center
Full Circle Grief Center
Thank you to all those who made flowers or contributed designs. Thank you for sharing something incredibly personal on a public platform.
